Call or wait
-
If the oven light is on but Proof barely warms it — Proof works that way: only the bulbs run, keeping the oven just warm enough for rising dough. Choose Bake or Convection Bake to cook. Safe to wait
-
If a gas burner clicks but will not catch — Knob off. When it is cool, lift the grate, make sure the burner head is clean and sitting square on its base, and try once more. Still unlit: book. Book this week
-
If the stainless oven interior has darkened — High heat discolors the stainless cavity with use, and Viking says it does not change how the oven cooks. Nothing needs fixing. Safe to wait
-
If you smell gas with every knob off — No switches, no flames. Leave the house with everyone, call the gas utility from outside, then call us. Call today
Call today: ring Viking Appliance Repair Mercer Island at (206) 208-3377. Book this week: use the booking page. Safe to wait: not urgent, book when it suits you.
What fails on this series
- One gas burner sparks without lighting Ports clogged after a spill, which a straight pin clears (never a toothpick), or a burner head not seated on its base. Clean and seated but still unlit, the igniter or valve needs testing. Book this week
- Sparking goes on after the flame is lit Wet or dirty igniters are the everyday cause. If a dry, clean burner keeps sparking, Viking's table points to grounding or polarity in the power supply, which an electrician checks. Book this week
- TruConvec bakes weakly or not at all In TruConvec only the element ringing the rear fan heats, so a stalled fan or a dead element there shows up in that mode first, while Bake still works. Book this week
- The broiler stays cold Make sure the temperature knob sits on the broil mark rather than past it, as the manual advises. Still cold on the mark, the top element or its control needs a look. Book this week
One cooktop, one or two ovens
The Tuscany ranges in Viking’s current documents are dual fuel. Sealed gas burners sit on top, lit by spark ignition that relights a flame on its own, and the oven below is electric: a bake element at the bottom, a broil element at the top and a TruConvec element around the rear fan. A 36-inch Tuscany has one oven. The 48- and 66-inch widths add a smaller second oven on the right, with its own temperature knob. Some tops trade burners for a griddle/simmer plate or induction elements.
Viking lists TVDR361, TVDR481 and TVDR661 as current, and TVDR360, TVDR480 and TVDR660 as discontinued.
The tag is behind the drawer
On Viking’s Professional ranges the tag sits under the control panel. A Tuscany keeps it lower, on the inside wall behind the storage drawer. The full model number there, not the width, tells us which top and which ovens your range has.
Questions about the Tuscany ranges
Why does the Proof setting on my Tuscany barely warm the oven?
Because Proof runs nothing but the oven light bulbs. Viking sets it to hold the cavity between 90 and 105°F, which suits rising yeast dough, so the elements staying off is correct. If Bake will not heat either, that is a fault: call Viking Appliance Repair Mercer Island at (206) 208-3377.
How should I dry the grates on a Tuscany range top?
Thoroughly, and underneath most of all. Viking warns that grates put back damp can rust, and asks that they are never soaked or run through a dishwasher. The manual also suggests setting the dry grates back over the burners and running them on high for ten to fifteen seconds to drive off the last moisture.
