What fails on this series
- Cold drawer, no sign of power A tripped outdoor outlet or breaker, a connection that damp air has worked on, or a control that no longer switches the drawer on. Book this week
- Power reaches it, but no heat The electric heating element or the wiring to it. The element is tested at the drawer, with the power isolated, before any part is named. Book this week
- Stays hot after it is switched off The control is no longer turning the element off. Leave the breaker off until the drawer has been checked. Call today

What the drawer does
An outdoor warming drawer sits in the island beside or under the grill and holds cooked food warm while the rest of the meal catches up. Viking built these for its 5 Series outdoor kitchens. The current side-burner and grill manuals still list VQEWD models among their companion products, and the outdoor warranty printed in them names an electric warming drawer element.
We have not found a Viking use-and-care guide for these drawers, so this page gives no settings, temperatures or tag position. It sticks to what an owner can see and check.
Why it rarely needs tonight
A warming drawer that fails spoils an evening’s timing, not the food in a refrigerator. Serve straight from the grill and book a slot. The exception is heat in the wrong place: a smell of hot wiring, discolored trim, or a drawer still hot after it has been switched off. Those go to the breaker first and the phone second.

Does Viking still make an outdoor warming drawer?
Not as far as its own listings show. Viking's documentation index marks the 30-inch VQEWD5301 and a 42-inch model with a convenience center as discontinued, and its current outdoor products include no warming drawer. If one sits in your island, ask about it when you call Viking Appliance Repair Mercer Island at (206) 208-3377 and give its full model number.
Why does the outlet come before anything else?
Because the drawer heats electrically and has no other source of warmth. An outdoor outlet with a reset button can trip in wet weather and take the drawer down with it. Pressing reset, or switching a tripped breaker back on, costs nothing, so it goes first. Power present and the drawer still cold: the element or the control comes next.
